I was born to Anna & Martin Luther Lewis (married 12 years) on December 27th, 1958 at Provident Hospital in Chicago. I grew up in a loving single parent home because my father had fallen off a step-ladder hanging drapes he had made for the dining room. My dad was paralyzed from the neck down. The doctors found he had cancer as well. He lived for three weeks and passed away in July of 1959. I and my twin brother, Martin were only 7 months old. My mother carried on with the help of her mother to raise us never marrying again. I told my beloved late mother in 1983, after participating in Harold Washington's Successful Mayoral Campaign Victory ( being he was my congressman) I said, "Momma, what if I ran for Congress?" And before I could finish the word 'Congress' she said, "I'll walk the streets for you to help you get elected".
I have lived a working man's life but opportunities were available not like in today's economy.
My first job at age 14 paid a $1.65 an hour. I was cutting weeds in vacant lots for Mayor Daley's Summer Youth Program. By the way, it was federally funded and was rewarding but hard work but I gained experience because I took pride in knowing it had to be done and I earned my way. In 1977 at graduation time from high school, I earned a select spot to become a "First Intern" at 1st National Bank of Chicago (Now called Chase). This was a federally funded program to assist young people into the area of corporate banking. This is where I learned about banking and received a scholarship to become a manager after graduation from DePaul University. After 2 years, my career interests changed and I left both Depaul and 1st National. I have been employed as a Hotel House Cleaning Supervisor at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Next I was employed as a proxy for an investment firm. Also I was a Baggage Handler for American Airlines for 5 and a half years (1984 to 1989) where I invented the now widely used 'Baggage Canvas Tractor Door' which saved airlines millions in vital replacement and repair costs.
I am currently employed at the United States Postal Service in Carol Stream, Illinois as a Mailhandler repairing mail in the Nixie "WE CARE" Unit going on 15 years this coming October. I was a 4th generation farmer in Munfordville, Kentucky. Our 44 acre farm was in the family since March 15, 1932 until December 7, 2007. I understand trying to hold on to precious land when outsiders use pressure tactics to swipe it out from them.
On December 15th, 1984, I married Carmen Renee Wickliffe whom I met in 1979 while attending DePaul University and we have three children, Paul & Lauren (Twins) and David who was born on my birthday of December 27th. The twins are both graduates from Illinois State University and David will be attending University this August, 2012. My wife and I are very grateful to God for seeing our children have accomplished their education goals to this point. I want the same for others in our district and better than I had. This is why I am in this race.
Now, after seeing our district in such disarray from a 'rudderless' district rep who from his broken personal promises he has made to his constituents and his lack of attention to pressing issues bombarding his constituency through to his unending problems with federal authorities to ethics probes to personal faults & failures, I have the call on my life to now run and win back the People's Seat of the 2nd Congressional District Of Illinois.
We can't take any more of this 'celebrity politician' such as we have now. We Can Do Better and We Will Do Better by "Changing Course" and voting for me on November 6th, 2012. I will be your Servant and Champion. My aim is to push to fulfill the needs and aspirations we have and deserve from Congress. I believe, We The People must have Justice & Fairness in order to live in harmony with each other. I will fight for these basic principles that All people desire, everywhere.
I am an Independent. But I feel at this time for us, this is exactly what the district needs. An independent advocate that is not beholden to no special interest is to our advantage as I believe we will be on solid footing being a district that has valuable resources being situated beautifully that includes having Chicago lakefront advantages. Our district begins at 53rd & Cornell south to Will and Kankakee Counties nestled between the 394 and I-57 highways that branch off to I-80 and I-294. We are a gold mine ready for investment of growth and job opportunities unparalleled anywhere in the State Of Illinois. It is up to us to determine OUR destiny and not anyone else.
I, Absolutely, DO NOT SUPPORT the proposed Peotone Airport Project.
We Can Do Better and We Will Do Better! I strongly support the expansion of the Gary International Airport across the border just 15-20 minutes away from our district border. With this airport already up and running and room for growth where arrangements can be guaranteed that will benefit our district businesses and residents for employment and servicing of the facility. It just makes good common sense.
Our district needs JOBS NOW and Education Grants for our children seeking Higher Learning, not burdensome loans that only make our problems worse. Yes, this is where the Federal Government must come into play a key role to assist us in getting us to where we want to go. We need our Federal Government that we pay our tax dollars to help alleviate our struggles. That is why the Top 1% has expensive Lobbyists at our Federal Government that only serve "their" interests and you will have me as your intermediator looking out for our best interests at heart at this level.
So let us begin to actively push to win this election from the powers that be, so Our Hopes and Our Dreams come true for us so our children can have the future they deserve and one we want to give them not watching one person 'benefit' while we, the constituents hold an empty bag again.
I will do all that God gives me to do to make you proud of our district of which we call home, educate our children and grow. I hope something I have said here will resonate within your hearts and cause you to join with me now to flush out the old and bring in the "YOU" starting by electing me the next U.S. Representative of the 2nd Congressional District Of Illinois on November 6th, 2012.
This campaign will receive whatever donations you are able to give to get our message out to the voting public in our district.Ladies & Gentlemen, It's plain and simple, Your struggle is My struggle, whether its to keep farm land in the family or find and keep a job. I understand. I have been there. To stave off a foreclosure notice or struggle to keep the lights on for another month, I have been there. I could go on and on. One thing I know is this campaign is you and how together we can get the resources with distinct planning that are due our district so we can rebuild our communities for a brighter tomorrow.
NOW HERE I AM!
READY TO LEAD...READY TO SERVE... READY TO RID JESSE JACKSON JR FROM OUR OFFICE...
"BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!"
OUR destiny is in OUR hands now... We Can Do This, TOGETHER.
